Start of the Findlay Bicentennial Parade
I visited my hometown last week as some big events took place to celebrate the city’s 200th birthday. One event I went to was the parade. Here is a slide show of some selected snaps I took that day. Enjoy!

Ocassional Thoughts of an Independent Progressive Atheistic Humanist

Maybe I’m missing something but the amount of time the sports media spends on talking about golfer Tiger Woods doesn’t match his recent work on the links. Maybe it’s just my local station but when reporting on the recent US Open the sports anchor mentioned the guy who won but also spent the same amount of time mentioning where Woods ended up on the leader board. Make no mistake, Tiger will be on the list of great golfers of history but he seems to be past his prime and doesn’t deserve the amount of coverage he gets in the press today.
There is no doubt that Woods was one of the great golfers of our time. He was the top money winner for nine years and is still the top money winner overall. He has won 14 major tournaments (US Open, The Masters, etc…) but since 2010 he has only won two tournaments and no majors.

Another conference and another bad experience by women at the conference followed by a backlash from men toward the women complaining. I am getting SICK OF IT! Knock the shit off now guys and show some respect for women. Right now some atheist men are no better than those on the religious right who want to return women back to the days when they were all barefoot and pregnant.
The atheist and freethought communities have gotten a black eye lately from a couple of highly publicized incidents where women attended some conferences and were harassed or treated unfairly by some men also attending the conferences or demeaned or outright dismissed in panel discussions.

As we celebrate Memorial Day in the US and it is an election year, we need to be reminded that the people who died in service of this country must not have died in vain. No matter your political party, we must work harder not to have more of our young people buried in military cemeteries. This post is my plea for us to work together to stop all war – both current and future.

I hate a lot of the political ads blasting away on my TV but I love this one – President Obama’s ad is short and to the point giving a reason for his re-election “Remember how things were in 2008? Do we really want to reverse course now?”
Most of the ads I’ve been seeing on my local stations are false negative ads from third party groups from Karl Rove to the US Chamber of Commerce against the President and Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. The local stations refuse to not air the false ads because they think they have to air all of them regardless if they are factual.
