Why Strident Atheists Don’t Bother Me

In the decades I’ve been involved in the atheist and Humanist movements, I’ve seen many “inner-party” battles over policy, plans, and actions. Many atheists I know are very vocal to the point they piss off many of my Humanist friends. So-called strident atheists never bothered me because of simple points I keep in mind that lowers my threshold of annoyance. I wish more in the freethought community would keep these hints in mind.

Why Are Republicans So Against A Pro-Business Policy Like The Individual Mandate?

The US Supreme Court is hearing arguments about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Specifically 26 states are challenging the individual mandate which requires all people to buy health insurance. The largest voice against the mandate are Republicans. Why are Republicans so against a pro-business policy like the individual mandate?

Previously Unknown Criminal Record Haunts Findlay City Councilman Collette

K. C. Collette (3rd Ward) never thought crap would hit the fan when he recently applied for a new job in Florida. It seems that the 7 term Findlay City councilman and assistant Hancock county prosecutor was arrested twice in the 1990’s for soliciting a prostitute in Florida. While I think that someone convicted of a misdemeanor shouldn’t be precluded from serving as an elected official, lying by omission about the crimes, when the county first hired him in 1996 and when he ran for council, does lead me to think he needs to resign his offices.

According to the Findlay OH Courier, Collette was arrested in 1993 and 1995 and plead no-contest both times. He had to perform community service each time and get counseling after the 2nd conviction. It also seems that the current County Prosecutor Mark Miller didn’t know about the convictions and the man who originally hired him, Robert Fry, now a Municipal Court judge knew about the 1993 arrest but not the 1995 one.

Before You Fall In Love With The ‘KONY 2012’ Video…

There is a viral video called “KONY 2012” by the group Invisible Children highlighting Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda – this is the same group that Rush Limbaugh supported simply because of the group’s name. It seems the group behind the effort to bring Kony down has not been completely honest about their full agenda.

The other day I created the image seen on the right of these words. “Nattering Nabobs Of Negativity: Know your GOP 2012 Presidential Candidates” which gave nicknames for each of the final four Republican Presidential Candidates of 2012. Then I had an idea of creating a short slide show set to some funky music. Enjoy a unique look at the four men who want to be President of the United States.
